Winged Pikmin were first introduced in Pikmin 3, the third main entry in the series released for the Wii U in 2013. They are described as pink-colored and bee-inspired, with the ability to fly freely and at great heights. This allows them to recover items that are elevated and to attack enemies that are airborne with ease. Their aerial maneuverability also makes it easier to transport objects to the ship or Onion. In terms of abilities compared to other Pikmin types in Pikmin 3, Winged Pikmin are tied with White Pikmin for the lowest attack strength and the slowest digging speed.

In Their Own Story

In Pikmin 3, the three leaders from Koppai—Alph, Brittany, and Charlie—encounter Winged Pikmin on the planet PNF-404. These pink, bee-like creatures prove invaluable for reaching high-up fruit and treasures that would otherwise be inaccessible, and for taking down flying predators that threaten the crew's mission. Their ability to fly freely allows them to bypass ground-level obstacles and quickly ferry items back to the S.S. Drake.
